Personalization and targeting (in the broader sense) are what differentiate successful affiliates from the rest of the pack. A generic funnel that tries to please (or even doesn’t at all) everyone is bound to fail. Users are accustomed to online browsing and can be picky about the promotional angles: They want to feel special, respected, and appreciated.
With this in mind, it’s a good idea to review some basic tailoring options. Yes, you can differentiate your traffic by OS, language, browser, device, and time of activity, but these categories are highly specific: It’s hard to come up with common recommendations.
But there’s at least one category where we can set some general rules that apply in almost any case. And that category is demographics, specifically generations. We’ll cover the best approaches and angles in your creatives for Gen X, Y, and Z, whether you are promoting LiveJasmin or Whitelabel.
Gen Z (18–29 y.o.): Make it pretty and quick
Gen Z is the youngest group to target (18–29 years old). They were born with a cellphone in their hands, so it’s no surprise that they are tech-savvy.
Gen Z knows how the internet works and appreciates short videos, impactful content, and maximum precision. Visualize your funnels, use modern language like puns and memes, opt for playful emojis (e.g., aubergine 🍆), and quick interactions. Bells and whistles are welcome, but the paramount thing is to be on point:
- Pre-Roll is an undisputed king among ad formats, considering that it can deliver lots of information in like 5 seconds
- While extra engagement is nice, the design should still be minimalistic; you don’t have to explain everything
- Image Scroller is another great Promo Tool because its mobile version provides circle layouts, resembling social media, which is where Zoomers tend to hang out
- Extra sections on your landing page can work well; for example, the “Most Popular” feed tends to benefit conversions
On top of VAST Pre-Rolls and Image Scroller, we can recommend Live Feed and Free Chat Promo tool. Popunders are also worth considering, but you should choose the right options here, since some Popunders fit better than others. To stay true to minimalism and precision, we suggest Jessica as your go-to option when targeting Gen Z.
Don’t forget about JOI and other modern subcategory tags to rotate Promo Tools that are more likely to captivate Gen Z users.
Millennials (30–45 y.o.): They want it to be worth their while
Millennials are very pragmatic. They like being entertained, but there should always be a practical benefit in the limelight. What kind of benefit? Things like promotions, discounts, and messages that communicate clear value. With Millennials, it’s better to use classic emojis (e.g., wink 😉) instead of puzzling slang or vague allegories. No matter the approach, value should always be communicated clearly:
- Highlight exclusive access to evoke the fear of missing out, a sense of a bargain
- Creatives should be polished, but don’t go overboard with flashiness
- Streaming-style experiences that feel premium work wonders with this age group
Our Discount Tool is a no-brainer here. But you can also opt for the Target Page with promotions for LiveJasmin. If you prefer Popunders, go for Susan (it resembles Netflix a lot). This Popunder is available for both LiveJasmin and Whitelabels.
Last but not least, the Whitelabel Bonus tool is an exceptional option, but only if you run Whitelabels! It’s the pinnacle of customization, letting you create a custom discount, give out extra credits, and display a thumbnail with a dedicated promotion on your Whitelabel homepage.
Gen X & Baby Boomers: Don’t make it harder than it needs to be
For older generations, everything should be simple. Baby Boomers will appreciate easy navigation, familiar layouts, and minimal friction. Like Millennials, Gen X also tends to enjoy straightforward benefits, highlighted in your funnel. Avoid heavy slang, fast cuts, or complicated flows:
- Use clean layouts and large CTAs that leave no room for second-guessing
- Full-screen live experiences work well here
- Emojis might be misunderstood, so rely on calm and direct messaging; or, perhaps, something truly classic
This is where Popunders shine; however, as with the other generations, some options perform just better. Kathy with a full-screen live feed, featuring the Most Popular models, is great to kick things off. Overall, your ads should be straightforward with an easy user flow.
And that’s it for generations! Of course, there are more recommendations, but in order to discover specific patterns, you need to run the tests. Every traffic flow is unique, so if you want more detailed strategies for a particular generation, you need your own data for your specific case.
There is one general key takeaway, though, that we haven’t mentioned yet: Volume alone is not enough in 2026. Test Promo Tool variations by age group and device, and don’t hesitate to ask your Affiliate Manager for recommendations based on your traffic to achieve the best results, coupled with the information from this article.
